Spice, Mash, Drizzle: Meet Houria, Tunisia’s Boldest Carrot Salad
Houria (also known as Ommok Houria) is a beloved Tunisian carrot salad that proves simple ingredients can hit hard. Made with tender carrots, mashed garlic, bold spices, and a generous spoonful of DAMYA Harissa, this dish is equal parts smoky, sweet, and fiery. It’s often served as a chilled starter or mezze with crusty bread, but we love it anytime as a punchy side or savory snack.

5–6 medium carrots, peeled and sliced

Finish with a drizzle of DAMYA Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil on top before serving!
What makes Houria unforgettable is the heat-and-earthiness combo: cumin meets vinegar, mellow garlic meets the heat of our chili paste, and it all gets rounded out by a drizzle of organic extra virgin olive oil. Whether you top it with boiled eggs, sardines, or nothing at all—it’s a fridge-friendly favorite that brings serious Tunisian flavor to your everyday table.
Pro tip? Let it sit a few hours before serving so the flavors fully come alive.
